Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like standard body horror, but inside Together exists a deep contemplation about how we choose to love our partners.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a special spark to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when the couple move from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that are inherent in long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
